Cheryl Burman, Partner
Bringing over 25 years of legal experience, Cheryl Burman has dedicated her career to comprehensive estate planning, probate and estate administration, and guardianship services. After starting her journey in New York City, where she assisted large corporations with complex executive compensation and retirement arrangements, Cheryl felt a calling to make a more personal impact. In 2017, she transitioned to helping individuals and families navigate the often-complicated world of estate planning. She believes that every individual deserves peace of mind when it comes to their legacy and works diligently to achieve that for each client.
Cheryl takes pride in working closely with her clients to create personalized estate plans that truly reflect their wishes and values. In addition to drafting Last Wills and Testaments, her services include planning using trusts, which can offer significant benefits in terms of asset protection, tax efficiency, seamless wealth transfer to beneficiaries, and preservation of government benefits in the case of individuals with special needs. Cheryl’s L.L.M. in Taxation also equips her with invaluable insight into complex tax planning to help minimize estate and gift tax.
One of Cheryl’s passions is assisting clients in developing and revising their estate plans in response to changing life circumstances. Whether it’s due to a divorce, remarriage, or other significant changes, she provides creative and thoughtful strategies for clients to address the needs of all their loved ones in potentially complicated situations. Additionally, Cheryl advises on estate planning and incapacity issues when clients are developing prenuptial agreements, with the aim to anticipate and address some commonly overlooked eventualities.
Beyond estate planning, Cheryl skillfully navigates the complexities of probate and estate administration. She provides compassionate support to executors and administrators, guiding them through the probate process to ensure that estates are managed according to their loved one’s wishes and in compliance with legal requirements. From filing necessary documents to addressing creditor claims, providing required notices, and facilitating asset distribution, Cheryl is there every step of the way, helping families through what can often be a difficult time.
Cheryl also assists with guardianship matters, helping clients establish guardians for individuals with special needs. She offers compassionate and guidance through the legal processes involved.
